Lynx Studio Technology announces worldwide availability of AES16e PCI Express AES/EBU Intefaces (6/7/2008)

Long awaited by Mac Pro and Windows computer users alike, the AES16e and AES16e-SRC PCI Express digital audio interfaces from Lynx Studio Technology are now available. The AES16e offers sixteen channels of 192 kHz AES/EBU I/O. Also now available, the AES16e-SRC also features sixteen channels of very high quality sample rate conversion.

“Our customers, especially for the Mac Pro, have been been quite eager to get their hands on the AES16e. We are excited about the results of our first product with the PCI Express interface and new mixer software for the Mac Pro computers,” stated Bob Bauman, chief hardware designer and Lynx cofounder. “The goal for AES16e has been to take the capabilities of our industry-standard AES16 and update its feature set, while taking advantage of the benefits of the PCI Express interface. The architecture and higher bandwidth of PCI Express reduces bottlenecks and overhead, allowing us to set the bar even higher for computer-based high end audio.”

The AES16e x1 PCI Express card provides 16 channels of 24-bit AES/EBU digital audio at a 192 kHz sample rate in both single-wire and dual-wire AES modes. Designed to integrate digital consoles, multichannel A/D and D/A converters, hard disk recorders, digital audio workstations and other digital audio equipment, the AES16e is compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating systems. The AES16e- SRC provides 16 channels of sample rate conversion. The third model AES16e-50, available late in 2008, will add up to 48 digital I/O channels using AES50 technology, carrying the digital signal on standard CAT5 or CAT6 cable.

“With Apple and other computer companies making more PCI Express computers available, we have listened to our customers’ requests for PCI Express interfaces that offer Lynx’s audio quality, driver stability and reliability,” stated David Hoatson, company co-founder. “The PCI Express format presents us with many interesting options for expanding the Lynx line and offering our customers some added capabilities for these powerful new computers.” The AES16e has a US suggested retail price of $795.

The AES16e-SRC retails for $895. The price and availability of the AES16e-50 will be announced at a later time.
