Avid Technology,
Inc.
delivers the solutions that "Make, Manage and Move Media!"
New at SYPHAonline.com
STOP PRESS!! The majority of the news in this bumper edition comes from
IBC and we'd like to welcome those new subscribers who signed up at the
show. Attendance was up to 42,815 - 5% higher than last year - and the
main themes were high definition, IPTV and IT. Convergence of technology,
and divergence of traditional broadcasting, is definitely here.
At every show we're asked "what have you seen that's interesting?" Often
it's something we discover by chance. The same was true for this year's
IBC when we had the pleasure of sitting next to Paul Tracey of VTR on
the flight out. TMR Digital, part of the VTR Group, is a partner in the
development of eTITLE. This automates the subtitling process by matching
the script with the audio track and then translating it intelligently.
It can also be used for digital asset management. For anyone who saw Dremedia's
speech recognition software demonstrated with Quantel systems at IBC a
few years ago, eTITLE is a development of that technology. More information
can be found at http://www.etitle.co.uk.
For those who missed the announcement, our new HD Kit Guide is now available
at http://syphaonline.com/HDWebSite/HDintro.html.
It covers professional production and post production equipment, from
HDV through to uncompressed HD. The new edition of the DAW Buyers Guide
is also now available at http://syphaonline.com/DAWWebSite/DAWintro.html.
Finally, we'd like to highlight what Fairlight is doing for WITNESS,
a nonprofit organisation that equips and trains local organisations around
the world to document human rights injustices. Fairlight will donate all
proceeds from the auction of a one-of-a-kind, vintage Fairlight CMI Series
III keyboard signed by legendary musicians and producers, such as Peter
Gabriel, Hans Zimmer, Thomas Dolby, Alan Parsons, Todd Rundgren, Mike
Oldfield and Jan Hammer. For more details visit http://www.fairlightau.com.
